First published in 1997 by Townsville couple,
Geoff and Lynne Hartley, the original Cassowary
Informer served the Cardwell Shire region from
Cardwell to Tully and Mission Beach, including
southern areas of the Johnstone Shire.

Howard and Tamara Oellermann, purchased the Cassowary Informer in 2008, and that same year, the
Cardwell Shire and Johnstone Shire Councils’ amalgamated to become the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
In 2022, as part of the publication’s 25th anniversary, the Cassowary Informer became the Cassowary Coast
Informer, expanding to serve the entire Cassowary Coast region. The re-branding included the Informer going
digital as a searchable online directory and flipbook. To experience the online directory and learn more,

Since its humble beginnings, the Cassowary Coast Informer continues to
serve the local community as an independent, family owned and operated
publication that is proudly produced, printed and hosted online within
