Child and Adolescent Oral Health Services (School Dental Service)

Queensland Health provides oral health care for children and teenagers through Child and Adolescent Oral Health Services, which in some areas are known as the School Dental Service.

General dental care and emergency dental care are available free of charge to all eligible children and young people in Queensland. This includes appointments for check-ups, preventive care, fillings and toothaches or accidents or emergencies.

Dental services for adults

Adults in Queensland can access free publicly funded dental care if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • are a Queensland resident and be eligible for Medicare; and
  • receiving benefits from one of the following concession cards:
    • Pension Concession Card Issued by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs;
    • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink;
    • Health Care Card;
    • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card; or,
    • Queensland seniors card.

This eligibility is extended to dependents named on an eligible adult’s concession card.
